The 1930s were a veritable golden age for photography in Mexico, a seminal period during which Henri-Cartier Bresson, Edward Weston, and Paul Strand, lived in the country, as well as native son Manuel Álvarez Bravo. Agustín Jiménez was a central figure in this avant-garde, but his work has been incomprehensibly neglected until our own day. This book meticulously reproduces 400 images by Jiménez, most of which appeared in publications of the period, along with an essay by Carlos Córdova that focuses on the most prolific years of the photographer (1928 to 1938), “a unique moment… which definitively transformed the significance of the photographic image.”
