The works of Juan Rulfo —El Llano en llamas and Pedro Páramo—
have been recognized as modern classics of world literature by writers
such as Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, and Susan
Sontag. The author of the classic On Photography also considered him
Latin America’s most important photographer. The Japanese novelist
Kenzaburo Oe and his Chinese counterpart Gao Xingjian have also expressed
