The Biblioteca de Ilustradores Mexicanos (BIM), or Library of Mexican
Illustrators, is a joint project of the magazine Galera and Editorial RM.
The collection covers the panorama of illustration and graphic art in
twentieth-century Mexico, with special emphasis on artists active
from 1920 to 1950. This period, parallel to the development of the
Mexican School of Painting, saw a flourishing publishing activity, rich
in both form and concept. The areas of illustration and design, as well
as the muralist movement, offered a space in which to promote the
cultural ideals of the time, with a focus on the original expression of
Mexican identity. The objective of BIM is to offer the non-specialist
reader finely-designed and well-produced books on the work of Mexican
illustrators and the representative themes and currents of the
period. Each volume of the series is designed in a unique format,
adapted to its subject matter, and written or edited by a specialized
researcher in the field.
